Firstly I love the name! The Alcatel One Touch Idol Alpha sounds too cool not to OWN!

Brilliant! I wish I could leave it there but it seems too difficult to put into words the design brilliance behind the Idol Alpha. Alcatel enters the fray with a smartphone that definitely looks the part. The phone is encased in an aluminium mainframe and a snazzy oleophobic coated “Dragon Trail” glass front. The back of the phone is actually made of plastic, but the aluminium frame pulls the back cover tight against the phone so that you can’t even tell it is plastic. The whole design lends a premium look and feel with a thin (7.5 mm) sleek finish. The design is definitely up there and even pushes the boundaries of what is expected with its new translucent edges. The screen produces a sharp quality display and works in tandem with the processor and RAM to deliver a seamless phone experience. A great smartphone with a sleek user interface & a design that will turn heads!! Idol Alpha has loads of apps. There are just enough social networks, games, productivity tools, utilities and extras. Alcatel also has its own Onetouch Live app, filled with a selection of games for you to download. Performance & life battery:The Idol Alpha has no LTE. It has a battery capacity of 2 000mAh, which should give you 10 hours of talk time on 3G. The Alcatel OneTouch Alpha is an attractive smartphone. It’s slim, premium and strong with that metallic frame and looks futuristic with the Deco lighting.

The fact that calls can be ignored with little effort makes this phone special to me. How many times don’t we find ourselves in situations where we cannot answer right then! I think it makes it unique amongst other smartphones . And that is besides the great camera and other specs that the phone has.

What can I say about this phone?

Well let’s see, the 1.3mpx front camera that’s @720p 30fps certainly makes it an excellent camera for video calls & in good quality too!

The Oleophobic coating is common among phones, yes, but is still an awesome that it’s present especially for a touch screen phone, helps curve those annoying fingerprint marks that can often be left.

And that chipset!! That wonderful chipset! The Mediatek MT6589 which first released in 2014 iirc. Must make mult-tasking a breeze.

And I know this might be mundane, but I appreciate the fact that the phone still has an FM radio. So many phones nowadays that label themselve’s as “smartphones” seem to drop the radio in favour of other features, so having the radio still present in here is a pleasant surprise.

Also appreciate the fact that the OS is jellybean. Most phone companies nowadays are always all about the “latest” OS updates, that they often don’t think about it’s stability. Hopefully this OS is upgradable or will be in future, but I’m glad we have the option to choose whether or not to update & not have it forced down our throats.

Also, I’m a big fan of music, audio books & japanese drama CDs. The latter two is almost certainly better Free Audio Lossless Codec (FLAC) & it makes me very happy that there is native support for the format on the phone.

To put it simply, this phone appeals to customers by allowing them to enjoy the pleasure of having a smartphone without forcing the latest features on to them that they probably will never use. The talk time & battery life stats also make it very appealing. It’s also a beautifully designed phone, and a great alternative to other phones in the smartphone market.
I still say the best feature for me is the 13mp camera since I’m crazy about taking selfies and pictures of almost everything new I see everyday

It really stands out with the other competitors because I don’t need to drain my wallet with very affordable prize for only R5000 seriously that’s a very competitive prize! It really makes it unique!
