Connecting The Dots

While many have enjoyed the convenience of the smart watch,  a percentage of the population had been at a disadvantage until now.

South Korean company, Dot, has created the World’s First smart watching for the visually impaired, with a full braille display.
With the intention to assist visually impaired individuals in leading an independent life, the Dot Watch is a smart device offering information at one’s fingertips (no pun intended ).
The design is simple, and features a large circular face. This circular face is equipped with a moving keyboard that relays braille text in real-time. The Dot Watch is made from silver aluminium and uses four electromagnetic actuators that relay the information through textural dots that form braille numbers and symbols.
The device offers privacy to users, allowing them to check their messages silently and without any problems arising from notifications being broadcasted, as is the norm for most products used in the visually impaired community ( such as audio notification readers). It assists users to find their smartphones, listen to music while checking notifications and has subtle vibration alarms.
The impressive battery life means that this smart watch can last an entire week on a single charge.
Alex Lee, the sales and marketing director for Dot, says that the product differs from other braille displays that read a single line at a time, as the Dot Watch has an active display and is designed to “pass the user’s fingertips as if it were on a moving belt”.
When connected via the Dot Watch smartphone app, the Dot Watch does more than simply tell you the date and time. Users can receive a myriad of information, ranging from road navigation and weather information,  to calls, text messages and social media updates!
The future is inclusive, and no one shall be left behind,  thanks to technology that is compassionate.
