Cargo Hold at uShaka Marine World will be celebrating a night of whiskey, jazz and a tantalizing menu from the Captain’s Cabin on September 24th from 6pm.


In collaboration with various whiskey brands –  Singleton, Talisker, Lavulin, Bulleit Bourbon, Baileys and Diageo – a special menu and entertainment lineup has been created to celebrate the life and style a top jazz venue somewhere in New York or New Orleans.

The main act will be the Solomon Willy Jazz Band which will be offering original compositions as well as an extensive mix of popular tasteful African music and jazz standards hits.

Hailing from Nigeria but now settled in Durban, Solomon Willy is best known as a  performing artist, guitarist, composer and music producer. He formed his band in 2009 and his music career took center stage when he was selected in a talent search audition to perform at the 2010 Fifa World Cup Fan Festival Stages in Durban. He also received an award from the Department of Arts and Culture Kwazulu-Natal and won a talent search competition at the Pavilion Shopping Centre. He has performed throughout Nigeria, South Africa, and Australia with the key change Music Project.

On a culinary note, starters include a choice of either smoked pea soup (pea soup, chicken ravioli, smoked paprika butter), Chorizo Chicken Livers (braised chicken livers, creamy chilli sauce and chorizo sausage) or Biltong, Roquefort and Feta Salad (garden greens, biltong, feta, tomatoes, carrots, cucumber, peppers, cream Roquefort dressing and crumbled blue cheese).

Mains, accompanied with a choice of either Talisker or Lagavulin whiskey , include Chicken Supreme (pan-roasted chicken supreme, button mushrooms, mustard and cauliflower puree), Beef Fillet (seared beef fillet, root vegetables, whiskey glaze and béarnaise sauce) or line fish of the day (grilled and served with chips and lemon butter sauce).

Finally, jazz and whiskey lovers will have a choice of two desserts, served with a Bulleit  Bourbon – Toffee Apple Pudding (a traditional South African favourite, baked with stewed apples, bourbon and butterscotch sauce, with vanilla ice cream) or Coffee and Banana Brule (poached banana and coconut sorbet).
