In response to Business for South Africa’s (B4SA) appeal for businesses to assist Government’s vaccination efforts, FNB is helping its elderly customers (60 years and above) to voluntarily register on the Government’s Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) Self Registration portal for vaccination.
This means that qualifying elderly customers who want to register on the Government portal and need help to do so, can be assisted to register via any of FNB’s approximately 600 branches nationwide that operate from Monday to Saturday, or its 37 branches that open on Sundays for limited hours. The bank’s offer to assist its elderly customers with registration follows the national government’s implementation of phase 2 of the vaccination drive which started on 17 May 2021 for citizens who are 60 years and above.
CEO of FNB Points of Presence, Lee-Anne van Zyl says elderly customers who can register on their own or with the assistance of family members, should still do so in the comfort of their home. However, elderly customers who cannot register on their own can be assisted via their nearest FNB branch where the bank operates. Our staff will be on hand to help qualifying elderly customers to register via our digital zones and mobile devices we use for normal banking services. We also remind customers to also bring their ID and proof of address for registration assistance, she says.
“As a corporate citizen, we have a responsibility to help efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19. While vaccination remains a voluntary choice, we believe that vaccination coupled with strict adherence to Covid-19 safety protocols is key to minimising the impact of this pandemic. We urge our elderly customers who choose to register via an FNB branch to wear a mask and follow safety protocols,” adds van Zyl.
Over the years, FNB’s branch network has played an important role in the provision of essential services beyond banking. The Bank has also been part of the industry efforts to help the Department of Home Affairs with the distribution of Smart IDs and passports at selected branches. Since inception, over 250 000 Smart ID cards and passports have been issued to customers in partnership with Home Affairs.
