one

Date:

Tuesday, 16 April 2013

Purpose:

Raise awareness for children who don’t have shoes, as well as the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child’s life.

Action:

>Walk around without shoes on 16 April to experience what millions of children go through daily without shoes

>Collect new and second hand school shoes to donate to children in need

(The event can be used to raise support for any initiative to do with gathering shoes – for example, the Wits Black Lawyers Association is using the event to raise awareness for and promote their drive to collect shoes for school children.)

TOMS Shoes

TOMS Shoes is the organisation that started the “One Day Without Shoes” event, partly to gather support for their “One-For-One” campaign – for every pair of shoes they sell, they give one away to a child in need.  TOMS has done shoe drops in a number of countries, including South Africa in 2007.
