Apple Introduces M4 Pro and M4 Max Chips: Unmatched Performance and Efficiency

Apple has once again raised the bar with the introduction of the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, part of the most advanced lineup of chips ever built for a personal computer. These new chips, along with the M4, are built using industry-leading, second-generation 3-nanometer technology, which significantly improves performance and power efficiency.

The M4 family of chips features the world’s fastest CPU core, delivering the industry’s best single-threaded performance and dramatically faster multithreaded performance. The GPUs in the M4 Pro and M4 Max build on the breakthrough graphics architecture introduced in the previous generation, with faster cores and a 2x faster ray-tracing engine. This means enhanced graphics performance and more realistic lighting, shadows, and reflections in games and other applications.

The M4 Pro and M4 Max enable Thunderbolt 5 for the Mac for the first time, providing faster data transfer speeds and more flexibility across peripherals. Unified memory bandwidth is greatly increased—up to 75%—which, combined with a Neural Engine that’s up to 2x faster than the previous generation, brings incredible performance for pro and AI workloads. This makes the M4 family ideal for researchers, developers, engineers, creative professionals, and other users with demanding workflows.

Apple Intelligence, the personal intelligence system, transforms how users work, communicate, and express themselves while protecting their privacy. The M4 family of chips delivers blazing performance for Apple Intelligence features like Writing Tools and other AI workloads. This means faster and more efficient processing for tasks like photo editing, video production, and other creative endeavors.

The M4 chip features an up to 10-core CPU, with four performance cores and up to six efficiency cores, making multitasking across apps like Safari and Excel lightning fast. A 10-core GPU provides incredible graphics performance, up to 2x faster than M1, making everything from editing photos to AAA gameplay exceptionally fast and smooth. The faster 16-core Neural Engine is great for Apple Intelligence features.
