If you are fit, bouncy and have your dancing shoes ready, then get ready to join the large crowd that will boogie in front of the stage at the Sid Sriram Concert at the Durban ICC on 17 June 2023.
Ticket sales for the once-off event go live at 9am on 25 March 2023 and, judging from experience at the singer’s other global concerts, there is expected to be a mad rush for the various classes of tickets, ranging from VVIP to VIP, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze.
Woodmark Events SA which is promoting the musical spectacle by the Chennai Crooner has deliberately chosen a long weekend for the concert to allow out-of-Durban fans and Sriram’s followers in neighbouring countries to attend. Youth Day, a public holiday, falls on Friday 16 June and Sunday 18 June is Father’s Day.
Promoter Sagie Naidoo said the cheapest tickets for the Durban concert will sell for “a most affordable” R375 to ensure nobody is left out. In Malaysia last November, the cheapest ticker cost R600 (150 Malaysian Ringgits) and in Australia it was R1100.
“While the cost of staging a concert by an artist of Sid’s calibre is mammoth, we also want to ensure we make it possible for as many of his fans as possible to attend and see him in the flesh. Hence, our lower priced tickets will sacrifice profit.”
He said Computicket has been appointed as the official online ticketing platform for the concert. Tickets will also be available at the Money Market counter at any Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, House & Home or Checkers Hyper outlet.
Naidoo said a special feature of the concert will be the standing option for those who are 16 years and over.
“There will be a Standing Gold Circle right in front of the stage allowing fans to sing and dance along with Sid. Only those that are fit and can dance without tiring are encouraged to venture there to keep up with the energetic star. Others can dance in the aisles to Sid’s wide repertoire of songs,” said Naidoo.
While Sriram has strong carnatic music roots, his forte presently is R&B. However, he has been blessed to sing songs of different genres – Adiye is a blues number, Ennodu Nee Irundhal has a large pop-anthem feel, Thalli Pogathey can’t be put under one category, Yennai Maatrum Kadhale is a love anthem for the youth and Maruvaarthai has a strong carnatic influence. The one common denominator with all the songs is the emotional, soulful quality.
Naidoo said bulk ticket sales of 25 or more can be reserved by sending a WhatsApp message to Woodmark Events SA at 082 259 6475 or 084 449 7140. Once paid for, these tickets will be allocated through Computicket’s corporate desk.
Sriram said he was counting the days to his Durban concert and he wished 17 June would come sooner.
“I am working on a special selection of songs for my Southern African fans. This will cover a wide range of my most popular numbers in Tamil and Telugu for all age groups
“I have always wanted to perform on African soil. I look forward to witnessing Zulu dancing but most of all, I want to try a real Durban bunny chow,” he said.
