‘Facebook Graph Search’ Has Kicked In!

Woke up this morning, logged onto Facebook with my PC… And Something New Pops Up At The Top Of The Screen!

I did some research on this and what it is about… Here it is:

Facebook Graph Search is a semantic search engine that was introduced recently. It is designed to give answers to user natural language queries rather than a list of links. The Graph Search feature combines the big data acquired from its over one billion users and external data into a search engine providing user-specific search results.

  • Find people who share your interests

Want to start a book club or find a gym buddy? Connect with friends who like the same activities—and meet new people, too.

  • Explore your world through photos

Now you can use simple, specific phrases like “Photos my friends took in New York City” to find anything you want.

  • Discover restaurants, music and more

Explore new places to eat and new bands to listen to—all through people you know.

Who can find your stuff?

It all depends on which audience you choose. So if a photo is set to:
  • Only Me = no one else can find it in search
  • Friends = friends will see it in their search results
  • Public = anyone who searches for it can find it
Graph Search is now available for English (US) audiences. If you don’t have Graph Search yet, you can still manage what you share with others.

Graph Search is available to people using Facebook in English (US). If you’re using Facebook outside of English (US), Graph Search isn’t available yet.

If you’re still waiting for Graph Search, you can look at some example searches. Click Try a Search to see what the results might look like for you with the search “People who live in my city.”

Keep in mind that even if you don’t have Graph Search yet, you may still show up in results for people who already have it. Learn more about managing what people can search about you.

Everyone on Facebook who you haven’t blocked can search for you, but what they can see about you in search results depends on what’s shared with them.

Search results respect your privacy settings, whether it’s info you’ve shared or posts with tags of you that others have shared. You can adjust what others can see on your timeline and who can see the things you share. Additionally, you can choose who can search for you using your email address or phone number.

Search respects privacy settings, which means people can search for info about you that they can see on Facebook, based on what’s been shared with them.

There are three ways you can manage what others may see about you in search results:

  • Use the audience selector to choose who can see things you share
  • Visit your activity log to see and review things you’ve hidden from your timeline
  • Go to the About page on your timeline to view and manage basic info about yourself

Remember: The goal of Graph Search is to help you discover new people, places and things. That’s why it shows you the most relevant results, even if they don’t exactly match your search term. For example, if someone searches for Lady Gaga they’ll see a set of results that includes, but isn’t limited to, the offical Lady Gaga Page.

Your photos and the photos you’re tagged in are visible to:

To adjust who can see photos you’ve uploaded, change the audience or remove them. If you were tagged in a photo you don’t like, you can remove the tag or ask the person to take it down.

Keep in mind, photos and posts hidden from your timeline are still visible to these people other places on Facebook, such as in News Feed and search. To see and review posts you’ve hidden from your timeline, go to your activity log.

Like adults, minors can appear in search results. Some things, like their school, current city, hometown or birthday may only be visible to their friends, or friends of their friends who are also minors. Learn more about how minors connect with others.
Remember that you can always review stuff you’ve shared on Facebook, change the audience for your own content, and ask others to remove photos or other posts.
