Gateway to Space: The exhibition is on countdown!

If you’re wondering what all the action is around the Sandton Convention Centre, it’s the build-up of the Gateway to Space exhibition, brought to you by Huisgenoot, YOU and Drum magazines. Nine technicians and representatives from Nasa arrived from Europe and the USA on 22 May to start setting up the contents of the 17 shipping containers for the first and largest exhibit of its kind in South Africa, documenting man’s epic journey into space.

Whether you’re 5 or 85, come and have a look at: the life-size 15 m Mir space station core module; a model of the first man-made satellite in space, the Sputnik 1; a full size lunar rover model; and an Apollo capture design. You can even touch one of Earth’s rarest treasures – a moonstone. These are only some of the 50 space attractions to see and experience!

To avoid disappointment, organisers urge the public to book tickets and timeslots in advance. Access per time slot is limited to minimalize queues and give each person the best experience possible.

The exhibition is hosted at the Sandton Convention Centre from 1 June to 31 July 2016. Tickets are available at Computicket and prices vary from R120 (children), R150 (pensioners during the week only), R180 (adults) to R520 (for a family of four). School packages are available by emailing space@megatrav.co.za.
