MTN is proud to announce that it has once again been recognised as the best overall network in South Africa, according to the latest MyBroadband Network Quality Report for Q2 2025.
This accolade, awarded based on comprehensive testing and analysis, highlights MTN’s sustained commitment to delivering top-tier network performance across the country. MTN achieved a Network Quality Score of 9.92, outperforming all other operators in South Africa with its closest competitor only achieving a score of 7.69.
The report is grounded in data from 304 489 samples collected from crowdsourced users and extensive drive tests over the period of April 1, to June 30 2025. MTN’s network was tested in various cities, towns, and main roads, covering a distance of 20,000 kilometers. This robust methodology underscores the real-world performance of mobile network operators.
In addition to being rated the Best Network in South Africa, MTN was also ranked the best network in several major metropolitan areas including Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, Cape Town, Johannesburg, eThekwini, Nelson Mandela Bay, and Mangaung, and MTN’s network was rated was rated the best in South Africa.

In addition to the recent recognition, the superior quality of MTN’s network has also been recognised by MyBroadband’s Mobile Network Quality Report for Q1 2025 and global benchmarking organization umlaut’s 2024 Best in Test, both of which ranked MTN as the country’s leading network in terms of speed, reliability, and overall performance, definitively placing MTN as the only network that can claim to best in the country, Farah said.
“The recognition of the quality and reliability of the MTN network is testament to the investment that MTN South Africa has put into leading the charge in bringing modern, connected living to every South African. In 2024 alone, MTN invested more than R9.7bn towards network and IT infrastructure. And we are increasing our investment toward the network with an additional R4.5 billion to ensure that MTN remains South Africa’s best network.”
