Samsung Expands Sleep Apnea Detection on Galaxy Watch Series – Now Available in South Africa

Samsung has officially expanded the availability of its sleep apnea detection feature on the Galaxy Watch series to 70 countries, including South Africa. This advanced health tool, integrated into the Samsung Health Monitor app, allows users to monitor potential signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea using their smartwatch.

The sleep apnea detection feature utilizes Samsung’s BioActive Sensor to measure blood oxygen saturation (SpO₂) during sleep. By analyzing fluctuations in oxygen levels, the watch can estimate the likelihood of sleep apnea and notify users of potential risks.

The feature is available on Galaxy Watch4 and later models running Wear OS 5.0 or newer. However, users must pair their watch with a Samsung smartphone running Android 12 or later for the feature to function properly.

Sleep apnea is a serious condition that causes breathing interruptions during sleep, leading to fatigue, cardiovascular issues, and cognitive disorders. Early detection can help users seek medical advice and improve their overall health.

Samsung continues to enhance its wearable technology with advanced health monitoring features. The expansion of sleep apnea detection reinforces the company’s dedication to providing users with accessible tools for better health management.
