The difference between LCD and LED

Well, I’m back again, hoping to answer another one of your frequently asked questions. When buying a new Television Set, not many people understand the full technology behind it, besides looking for Full HD 1080p or HDR (HD Ready). From Plasma, to LCD and now the most recent LED Television Sets are soaring the markets. So when entering a shop not many people understand what the main differences are between these two technologies. Most people think of a whole lot of LED’s placed together to form a picture, hence called an LED TV, this is NOT the case. I hope this article helps you with that.

We all are familiar with LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) which replaced the Plasma screens a few years back, obviously every person knows this as a “Healthier” solution to the old “Box” Television Sets. The LCD is basically some liquid, pressed between two separate plates, which change when a current is passed through it. This Liquid doesn’t emit any light of its own, hence, it needs some source of light to illuminate the picture. I’m sure you must have found this so on a calculator or an LCD watch, you would still need a light in order to see the digits.

LED (light-emitting diode) TVs are actually a type of LCD (liquid crystal display) television. LCD HDTVs use standard compact fluorescent tubes to illuminate the picture. LED HDTVs, on the other hand, replace those fluorescent tubes with backlighting technology. This technology adjusts the picture beyond the capability of those fluorescent tubes to create much clearer images, and is the main difference between LCD and LED.

This in turn does produce a much clearer picture! No doubt that a standard LCD TV produces brilliant picture quality, but overall there is a difference in picture quality between the two. Another advantage of an LED TV is that it is much thinner than your average LCD TV thus making it much more Stylish and Modern. In turn, this extra picture quality and style does come with a hefty price!

I hope you now understand the differences and this helps when buying your next TV! Smile

Happy Buying!!!
