WhatsApp To Add Passcode Protection Feature For Conversations In Next Update?

With the recent implementation of end-to-end encryption by WhatsApp which spans across all of its platforms, it now looks like that the world’s most popular instant messaging app with over 1 billion users may just be heading to add a passcode protection feature for conversations soon just to beef up the privacy within the app.

The added feature was originally spotted in WhatsApp translation requests, which essentially are text strings sent by the company to volunteers to translate UI and other text, and if this is indeed how they plan to implement this, then the passcode protection feature should be arriving very shortly.

Some of the text strings include:

  • “Enter the current six-digit passcode”
  • “Passcodes don’t match. Try again”
  • “Enter a recovery email address”

The phrases indicate that you may get a recovery mail option in case you forget their six-digit passcode. At this point in time, it’s not exactly clear whether WhatsApp will keep the option to add six-digit passcode feature a compulsory or optional feature.
