9 Helpful Android classroom apps for teachers

Technology can be an invaluable aid for teachers, from helping them to manage their admin to providing access to rich learning materials and making it easier to communicate with learners. Indeed, during times of social distancing in the pandemic, it enabled teaching to continue. There’s no doubt that it’s a permanent fixture of the classroom.

For World Teacher’s Day (05 October) Alcatel recommends the following Android apps that can help make life easier for educators:

  1. Explain Everything Whiteboard

Explain Everything is a versatile whiteboard app that can add more interactivity and excitement to classroom lessons. You can use it to sketch, talk and share, integrating high quality video and audio directly from Google Drive and Dropbox. You can also record the lesson to share later.

  1. Google Classroom

Classroom is a free service for schools, non-profits, and anyone with a personal Google account. The app makes it easy for learners and instructors to connect—inside and outside of schools. It saves time and paper, and makes it easy to create classes, distribute assignments, communicate, and stay organised.

  1. Kahoot

Get your class engaged with exciting quiz-based games called kahoots. You can search for ready-to-play kahoots on any topic or create your own within minutes. Equally great for classroom and virtual lessons!

  1. ClassDojo

ClassDojo is a safe and simple communication app for teachers, parents, and students.  Teachers can bring parents into the classroom experience by sharing photos, videos and announcements. Students can add their classwork easily to their own digital portfolios for their parents to see, while teachers can also safely and instantly message with any parent.

  1. TeacherKit

TeacherKit is a classroom companion for maintaining grade records, taking attendance, creating seating charts, managing progress reports and more. Used by more than a million teachers worldwide, the basic app is free.

  1. Planboard

This app helps to plan lessons on the go in an easy-to-use editor with curriculum standards and attachments. Planboard organises your lessons, subjects and terms in a beautiful timetable that is with you everywhere you go.

  1. Edmodo

Edmodo enables teachers to share engaging lessons, keep parents updated and build a vibrant classroom community. It lets you reach every student in your class, facilitate discussions with the entire class or check in individually with direct messages, and help your students stay organised with an automatically-updated planner.

  1. Seesaw Class

Seesaw is a learner-driven digital portfolio that inspires your students to do their best work. They use the app to express themselves, reflect on their learning and create a portfolio they’re proud to show others.

  1. TrackCC

You can use this app to record daily class activity as it happens—including attendance, behaviour, and a range of other learner and classroom notes.
