Burgess, the founder and CEO of Gojimo is one of the UK’s best known young serial entrepreneurs. At just 15 years of age, Burgess ran his own eBay shop, becoming a super-seller and turning over £36,000 a year. By the age of 17, Burgess had founded EducationApps, a startup app developer that produces educational content for mobile phones, with partners such as the BBC, Pearson, and Oxford University Press. George has been titled one of Britain’s six most exciting young entrepreneurs by Forbes, and “One to watch on London’s Tech Start Up Scene” by the London Evening Standard.

Burgess, who is passionate about education, identified South Africa’s demand for technology-based learning and saw the opportunity of putting learning right into the hands of students via their mobile phones. Burgess says, “I’ve seen the transformative nature of education and using a mobile learning platform puts that power right into the hands of the students”.

Gojimo enables students to find everything they need inside this one app. The app works on both phone and tablet devices, allowing students to download Gojimo for free from either App Store or Google Play. An essential benefit for students is that the app works offline so once the content is downloaded students can use the app with no Internet connection.

Gojimo’s content is free and specifically written for the South African matric’s making it extremely relevant. The app helps students get an instant picture of their knowledge by selecting their exam and the subjects they are studying for. Content can be broken down into topics or students can opt to take a random quiz out of 160,000 free quiz questions, making them able to track their progress over time as well as revisit previous questions and answers in order to reinforce their learning. After each question users are given an explanation, regardless of whether they answered correctly or not. Gojimo has also presented students with the opportunity to make use of previously ‘dead’ periods of time by being able to revise anywhere at anytime.

When asked on his views of the future status of education in South Africa, George answered that he is, “excited to see some real transformations currently underway. The embracing of technology appears to be occurring at all levels and we’re excited to play a role in that”. Burgess continued to say that with Gojimo he hopes that “together we can help raise pass rates”.

Gojimo is the leading trendsetter in technology learning. The youthful and internationally successful George Burgess is passionate about enriching the educational experience for Africa’s students. By facilitating student learning, for free and at any point in time, George, together with Gojimo, has created a platform to nurture and increase the potential that students possess.
