Microsoft has recently launched the Windows 365 Link, a compact and cloud-based mini PC that closely resembles Apple’s Mac Mini. This innovative device, announced at the Ignite 2024 event, is designed to provide a seamless and secure Windows 365 experience for desk-based workers.
The Windows 365 Link is powered by a cloud-based version of Windows 11 and features an Intel processor with 8GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It supports dual 4K monitors, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and multiple USB ports, making it highly adaptable to various work environments. The device is designed to offer high-performance video playback and conferencing, including high-fidelity Microsoft Teams meetings.
One of the standout features of the Windows 365 Link is its focus on security. The device has a locked-down operating system with no local data or apps, and no local admin users, significantly reducing the attack surface. It supports passwordless authentication using Microsoft Entra ID and includes security features like Secure Boot, TPM, and BitLocker encryption.
The Windows 365 Link will be available for purchase in select markets starting in April 2025, with a price tag of $349 (approximately R30,000). Organizations in Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the UK, and the US can apply for the preview program by December 15, 2024.
