WeChat, the world’s fastest growing social app, has partnered with DStv to make the voting process for Big Brother Mzansi Secrets free of charge for all South Africans.
Voters wanting to engage with the popular show, which started on Mzansi Magic earlier this month, will be able to save their airtime and moola by downloading the WeChat all-in-one social app free of charge*.
WeChat’s involvement with Big Brother Mzansi Secrets has already resulted in a week of firsts for the world’s biggest reality show:
Last Wednesday night, for the first time in Big Brother’s 14-year existence, the Housemates and the Chambermates were able to talk to each other using WeChat.
On Friday night, the Housemates used WeChat to vote for the Chambermate they’d like to have as their next Housemate and fellow competitor. On Sunday night, 25-year old filmmaker Kgosi joined the House.
Brett Loubser, MD of WeChat Africa, says that “WeChat is perfect for these hugely engaging DStv reality shows as it is the only social app which can also provide other forms of individual digital interaction”.
Viewers can, for example, also post messages at no cost to TV screens from the WeChat Big Brother Official Account (OA).
CEO of DStv Media Sales, Chris Hitchings, noted that “in line with international trends ‘second screening’ is increasingly taking place in DStv homes with viewers using their smart phones, tablets and PC’s whilst watching their favourite shows.” Hitchings said that “WeChat’s involvement provides an extremely exciting platform to enhance the viewer’s TV experience across multiple screens.”
