Sponsored Content & Advertising Policy

Our Approach

Digital Street is committed to maintaining a clear distinction between independent editorial content and commercial content.

As an independent technology publication, Digital Street may generate revenue through advertising, sponsored content, partnerships, campaigns and other commercial arrangements.

Commercial relationships help support the operation of Digital Street but do not give advertisers or commercial partners control over our independent editorial coverage.

Editorial Independence

Digital Street maintains editorial independence from advertisers, sponsors, brands, public relations agencies and other commercial partners.

Payment for advertising or participation in a commercial partnership does not guarantee favourable editorial coverage.

Likewise, choosing not to advertise with Digital Street does not influence whether a company, product or service may be covered editorially.

Independent editorial decisions are based on factors including relevance, newsworthiness, reader interest and alignment with Digital Street’s areas of coverage.

Sponsored Content

Digital Street may publish content produced as part of a paid commercial arrangement.

Where an article has been sponsored or paid for, we aim to identify its commercial nature clearly and prominently.

Depending on the nature of the arrangement, labels may include terms such as:

Sponsored
Sponsored Content
Paid Partnership
Partner Content

The appropriate disclosure may vary depending on the format of the content and nature of the commercial relationship.

Sponsored material should not intentionally be presented to readers as independent editorial coverage.

Advertorials

Advertorial content is promotional material presented in an article-style format.

Where Digital Street publishes advertorial content, it should be clearly identified as commercial content.

Advertorials may be produced by an advertiser, supplied by an agency, created in collaboration with Digital Street, or prepared using information supplied by the commercial partner.

Publication of an advertorial does not represent an independent Digital Street endorsement of the claims made within it.

Advertising

Digital Street may display advertising across its website and other digital channels.

Advertisements may be supplied directly by advertisers or delivered through third-party advertising platforms.

The appearance of an advertisement on Digital Street does not constitute an endorsement of the advertiser, its products or its services.

Digital Street may not exercise direct control over every advertisement displayed through automated third-party advertising systems.

Press Releases

Digital Street regularly receives press releases, announcements, media statements and other information from companies and public relations agencies.

Receiving a press release does not constitute a commercial relationship.

Publishing information originating from a press release does not automatically make an article sponsored content.

Press releases may be edited, rewritten, condensed or supplemented with additional reporting and context before publication.

Where appropriate, Digital Street may identify information as having been supplied by a company, spokesperson or other source.

Product Reviews and Review Units

Companies, distributors and public relations agencies may provide Digital Street with temporary access to products or services for review.

Receiving a review unit does not guarantee coverage or a positive review.

Where a product is provided permanently, gifted, discounted or otherwise forms part of a material commercial relationship relevant to the review, Digital Street aims to disclose that relationship where appropriate.

Review conclusions remain the responsibility of the relevant Digital Street writer or editorial team.

Event and Travel Invitations

Digital Street may occasionally attend product launches, conferences, media events or other industry activities at the invitation of companies or their representatives.

In some circumstances, travel, accommodation, meals or other reasonable expenses associated with attending an event may be provided by an organiser or commercial partner.

Where such support is materially relevant to the resulting coverage, Digital Street may disclose it.

Acceptance of an invitation does not guarantee favourable coverage.

Affiliate Links

Digital Street may occasionally use affiliate links.

When a reader follows an affiliate link and completes a qualifying purchase or other action, Digital Street may receive a commission without necessarily increasing the price paid by the reader.

Where affiliate links are used, Digital Street aims to provide appropriate disclosure.

Commercial commission does not determine the conclusions of independent reviews or editorial recommendations.

Competitions and Giveaways

Digital Street may conduct competitions or giveaways independently or in partnership with brands and other organisations.

Where prizes are supplied by a third party, this does not automatically constitute an endorsement of that company’s products or services.

Competitions may be subject to separate terms and conditions, eligibility requirements and closing dates.

Social Media Partnerships

Commercial partnerships may extend to Digital Street’s social media channels.

Sponsored social media posts or paid partnerships should be identified using appropriate disclosures or platform-provided commercial-content tools where applicable.

Guest and Contributed Content

Digital Street may accept contributed articles from companies, agencies, industry specialists and other external contributors.

Contributed content is not necessarily sponsored content.

Where payment or another material commercial arrangement is involved, appropriate disclosure should accompany the content.

Digital Street reserves the right to edit, reject or remove contributed content that does not meet its editorial standards.

Commercial Influence

Advertisers and sponsors may provide factual information relating to their products, services or campaigns.

However, commercial partners should not dictate the conclusions of independent Digital Street journalism.

Where content is specifically commissioned as sponsored material, the commercial nature of that content will be distinguished from independent editorial coverage.

Links in Sponsored Content

Links included as part of paid or sponsored arrangements may be treated differently from ordinary editorial links.

Digital Street may apply appropriate technical link attributes where required to distinguish advertising or commercially influenced links from independent editorial references.

This is important technically as well as editorially. Google’s current guidance says paid links should be qualified using rel="sponsored"; nofollow remains acceptable, although Google prefers sponsored for paid links.

Corrections

Sponsored and commercial content remains subject to reasonable standards of factual accuracy.

Material factual errors identified in sponsored content may be corrected in accordance with the Digital Street Corrections Policy.

Contact

Questions regarding advertising, sponsorships, commercial partnerships or sponsored content can be submitted through the Digital Street Contact page.

Editorial corrections should be submitted in accordance with our Corrections Policy.
