Digital Street is committed to publishing accurate, reliable and transparent technology journalism.
Despite appropriate editorial care, errors can occasionally occur. When we identify a material factual error in published content, we aim to correct it promptly and transparently.
How We Handle Corrections
The way a correction is handled depends on the nature and significance of the error.
Minor changes such as spelling, grammar, formatting, punctuation or other changes that do not materially alter the meaning of an article may be corrected without an accompanying correction notice.
Material factual errors will be corrected within the article. Where appropriate, Digital Street may also include a correction or update notice explaining what was changed.
We do not remove accurate information simply because an individual, company or organisation disagrees with it or finds it unfavourable.
Article Updates
Technology stories can develop after publication. Articles may therefore be updated when new or materially relevant information becomes available.
Examples include:
- confirmed South African pricing or availability;
- updated product specifications;
- additional information from a company or spokesperson;
- new developments in an ongoing story;
- clarification of information previously published; or
- correction of a material factual error.
Where an article has been substantially updated, Digital Street may display an updated date or explanatory note.
Minor editorial changes do not necessarily constitute a substantive update.
Corrections vs Updates
Digital Street distinguishes between a correction and an update.
A correction addresses information that was inaccurate when published.
An update adds or changes information because circumstances have developed since the original article was published.
This distinction helps preserve the integrity of the original publication record.
Headlines and Social Media
If an error appears in an article headline, it will be corrected where appropriate.
Where materially incorrect information has also been distributed through Digital Street’s social media channels, we may issue a clarification or correction on the relevant platform when warranted.
Article Removal
Complete removal of published articles is generally reserved for exceptional circumstances.
Digital Street may consider removing or substantially altering content where there are compelling legal, privacy, safety or editorial reasons to do so.
Ordinarily, correcting inaccurate information is preferable to deleting the historical publication record.
Reporting an Error
Readers, companies and other interested parties are encouraged to notify Digital Street of potential factual errors.
Correction requests should be submitted through our Contact Digital Street page and should, where possible, include:
- the URL of the relevant article;
- a description of the information believed to be incorrect;
- the correct information; and
- supporting evidence or sources where applicable.
All credible correction requests will be considered on their merits.
Submitting a correction request does not automatically mean that Digital Street will amend or remove the content.
Editorial Responsibility
Digital Street retains editorial responsibility for determining whether published material requires correction, clarification, updating or other action.
Our objective is to maintain an accurate and trustworthy record while being transparent with readers when material mistakes occur.
