Our Approach to Artificial Intelligence
Digital Street is a technology publication that recognises artificial intelligence as an increasingly important part of the modern digital landscape.
We may use artificial intelligence and AI-assisted tools to support aspects of our editorial, creative, research and operational workflows.
However, the use of AI does not remove Digital Street’s responsibility for the accuracy, quality and integrity of the content we publish.
Our approach is based on a simple principle: AI can assist the process, but editorial accountability remains human.
How Digital Street May Use AI
AI-assisted tools may be used to support tasks including:
- research and topic exploration;
- summarising or organising information;
- transcription;
- headline and title development;
- search engine optimisation;
- grammar and language improvements;
- content formatting;
- data organisation and analysis;
- image ideation or creation;
- social media and promotional content; and
- other administrative or editorial-support functions.
The extent to which AI is used may vary depending on the nature of the content.
Human Editorial Oversight
Content intended for publication remains subject to appropriate human editorial oversight.
Digital Street does not consider the output of an AI system inherently factual simply because it has been generated by an advanced technology platform.
Where AI-assisted tools contribute to the preparation of editorial content, responsibility for the published material remains with Digital Street and the relevant author or editorial team.
Accuracy and Verification
AI systems can produce inaccurate, incomplete, outdated or misleading information.
Information generated or suggested by AI should therefore not automatically be treated as a verified source.
Material factual claims should, where appropriate, be checked against reliable sources such as official company information, primary documents, interviews, recognised research, regulatory information or other credible sources.
Digital Street’s normal editorial standards continue to apply regardless of whether AI tools were involved in the production process.
AI-Generated Articles
Digital Street does not publish content solely because it has been generated by an AI system.
AI may assist with the preparation, organisation, refinement or development of content, but publication remains an editorial decision.
Content should provide genuine value to readers rather than being produced primarily to increase the volume of pages published or manipulate search visibility.
This distinction is particularly important for search. Google states that appropriate use of AI or automation is not inherently against its guidelines, but using automation primarily to manipulate search rankings violates its spam policies.
AI-Generated and AI-Assisted Images
Digital Street may use AI-generated or AI-assisted imagery where appropriate.
Such imagery may be used for illustrative, conceptual, creative or promotional purposes, particularly where suitable original or supplied imagery is unavailable.
AI-generated imagery should not intentionally be presented in a way that materially misleads readers about a real-world event.
Where an AI-generated image could reasonably be mistaken for documentary photography or evidence of an actual event, Digital Street may provide appropriate context or disclosure.
Images of Products and People
Extra care should be taken when AI-generated imagery depicts identifiable products, companies, public figures or events.
AI imagery should not be used to fabricate evidence of something having occurred.
For example, an AI-generated conceptual image illustrating the future of artificial intelligence is fundamentally different from generating a fictional image and presenting it as a photograph from an actual product launch.
Where authenticity is editorially important, Digital Street should favour genuine photographs, supplied media assets or other verifiable imagery.
Reviews
AI should not replace genuine first-hand experience when Digital Street represents an article as a hands-on product review.
AI tools may assist with elements such as research, organisation, editing or comparison, but opinions concerning actual product experience should reflect the experience of the reviewer.
Where a review makes claims based on hands-on testing, those claims should be based on genuine testing or experience.
Quotes
AI tools should not be relied upon to invent, reconstruct or materially alter quotations attributed to real people.
Quotes should originate from an identifiable source such as an interview, press release, statement, transcript, recording or other verifiable material.
AI may assist with transcription or formatting, provided the resulting quotation accurately reflects the source material.
Sources and Attribution
AI systems are not substitutes for primary sources.
Where an article relies on information originating from another publication, company, research organisation, government body or individual, appropriate attribution should be provided where required.
The use of AI to discover or process information does not remove the need to credit the underlying source.
Corrections
Content produced with the assistance of AI is subject to the same Digital Street Corrections Policy as other editorial content.
If AI-assisted content contributes to a material factual error, the error should be corrected appropriately.
Responsibility for correcting published information remains with Digital Street rather than the AI service used during production.
Sponsored Content
AI tools may assist with the production or editing of sponsored and commercial material.
The use of AI does not change the requirement for sponsored content to be appropriately identified.
Commercial disclosures are governed by the Digital Street Sponsored Content & Advertising Policy.
Contributor Use of AI
Contributors submitting material to Digital Street remain responsible for the accuracy, originality and integrity of their submissions.
Digital Street may edit, verify or reject contributed material where there are concerns about accuracy, attribution, originality or inappropriate use of automated content-generation tools.
Copyright and Originality
AI-assisted workflows should be used with appropriate consideration for intellectual property, attribution and originality.
Digital Street does not intentionally use AI tools as a mechanism for reproducing another publisher’s original work without appropriate permission or attribution.
AI-assisted content should meet the same standards expected of other material published by Digital Street.
Disclosure
Digital Street does not necessarily provide a separate AI disclosure for every routine use of an AI-assisted tool.
For example, using AI to assist with grammar, transcription, headline ideas or SEO does not ordinarily require an article-level disclosure.
Where AI plays a substantial role in producing content and that involvement would be materially relevant to a reader’s understanding of the work, Digital Street may provide an appropriate disclosure.
The objective is meaningful transparency rather than labelling every use of modern software.
Evolving Technology
Artificial intelligence technologies, capabilities and industry standards continue to develop rapidly.
Digital Street may therefore update this policy as technologies, regulations, industry practices and our own editorial workflows evolve.
Editorial Responsibility
Regardless of the technology used during production, Digital Street remains responsible for the material it publishes.
Our use of AI should support — rather than replace — the principles established in our Editorial Policy, including accuracy, transparency, attribution and editorial accountability.
Contact
Questions regarding Digital Street’s use of artificial intelligence can be submitted through our Contact page.
Concerns regarding the accuracy of published content should be submitted in accordance with our Corrections Policy.
