The objective with hosting the event in South Africa remains unchanged which is to create the right atmosphere to stimulate the young creative capacity in our country and to help the next generation of talent prosper and develop into future creative award winners. Portfolio Night is the world’s largest portfolio review for young creatives looking to break into the advertising industry. Now in its twelfth straight year, in 24 cities around the globe!

Students of the Vega School of Brand Leadership (Vega), a brand of the Independent Institute of Education (The IIE), were recently afforded the opportunity to partake in the much anticipated Portfolio Night in Johannesburg and Cape Town. While the event was hosted by Vega’s Johannesburg and Cape Town campuses, the occasion brought together a medley of students from different tertiary institutions in South Africa to present their design work to a formal panel of creative directors from some of South Africa’s well-known advertising companies.

Talented Vega students, Buyani Duma from the Durban campus and Katlego Phatlane from the Pretoria campus, were amongst the learners who stood out on the evening, achieving first and second places respectively as result of their uncontested talent and design skills.

The judges were looking for originality, out-of-the-box thinking and individuals who created work that stood out from the crowd with its uniqueness. Students were expected to present a selection of their best work completed throughout their tertiary years.

Every year, IIE-Vega graduates a group of brand geniuses who are more than ready to take the branding and design industry by storm. Phatlane and Duma’s achievements are not solely their own but a victory for Vega as well. This is because one of Vega’s primary objectives is to not only deliver high quality education, but to educate its students so that they are mentally and practically prepared to succeed in the work sphere.

“We are extremely proud of Katlego and Buyani, and are very happy with the kind of feedback that the judges have given them. The quality of their work is an honest interpretation of how Vega is able to shape its students into brand masterminds,” says Fay Amaral, Managing Director of Vega.

Both students are equally elated and honoured to have been recognised for their work, and have further asserted that they could not have possibly gained such knowledge if it weren’t for the facilitation and guidance of Vega’s navigators. In addition to the networking and portfolio review opportunities, one person from this Event will win a trip to New York to compete in a week long creative challenge.

Vega is always ready to make a difference in the lives of those who are passionate about leaving a mark in the branding industry. If you think you have what it takes to graduate to a higher level of innovation and creativity, Vega School of Brand Leadership is certainly for you. Applications for mid-year intake are now open!
