FNB today announced that, as part of its smart device range, it will now offer a tablet to its customers for R99 per month, making smart devices affordable for South Africans who previously would not have been able to purchase one.
The Lenovo Ideatab, which comes with a free protective cover, includes all the features one would expect from an android tablet, such as 3G and Wifi internet connection, a 7 inch touch screen and long lasting battery life. The tablet is paid off over a 24 month, interest free period and can be ordered online from FNB’s website or by sending “data” to 31138 via SMS.
“Smartphone and tablet penetration is increasing rapidly in South Africa and it is important that as a leader in digital banking, we do our part to make this happen so that more people have access to the devices and technology that enables them to bank digitally,” says Kartik Mistry, Head of Smart Devices at FNB.
“The addition of the Lenovo Ideatab to our device range means that for less than the cost of dinner and a movie, customers can now own a device that enables them to bank digitally; use as a learning tool; or for their gaming and entertainment needs,” continues Mistry.
FNB recognises that as devices become more accessible to more South Africans, tech support will become an important part of customers’ needs. The bank has introduced the FNB Guru desk – a service centre that customers can contact to get help on anything from how to download the FNB Banking App, to how to set up their new device.
“We will continue to expand our range of devices to as many of our customers as possible, at accessible price points and teach them how to use their devices, so that we can ensure customers have access to our digital banking channels,” concludes Mistry.
The bank applies qualifying criteria and approved customers can expect to receive their device within 5 – 7 working days whilst those who wish to purchase their device in store can do so at one of the nationwide dotFNB stores.
The deal includes a two year onsite warranty. FNB will collect and repair any faulty device and deliver the new or repaired device to customers for the duration of the contract.
Qualifying customers will get up to 500MB free data per month, depending on their rewards level.
