The event saw 100’s of interested virtually attracted people gather to celebrate the launch and a community that could possibly be Cape Town’s highlight of the month. During the launch CiTi’s CEO Ian Merrington said: “Tech and innovation are no longer about isolated development or working in silos. Rather it is a catalyst bringing together industries, disciplines and mediums in our quest to innovate and create. The Virtual Reality community is a first in the country and we are proud to continue CiTi’s tradition of technology, innovation and inclusive growth through this new initiative.”

This initiative will bring people from different races together to share ideas and have fun in a virtual way. It will allow people to develop new ideas, explore new avenues and get to know the virtual environment more better and in a more realistic way. Grant de Sousa and Tyrone Rubin from Virtual Reality SA went on to say “Our aim is to collaborate with like-minded people in a synergistic forum that will encourage big-thinking, ideas, solutions and bigger, more effective results.”

They also discussed the current global climate of Virtual Reality and where they headed to next. Chris Vermuelen, Head of Enterprise Development at the Barn stated that “Telkom and CiTi support the Virtual Reality community by providing space, broadband, skills and mentorship. The community will meet once a month at the Barn and continue to share ideas, learn, grow and build together.”

So growing the VR community is one of the major aims Chris aspires to achieve. With this growing spectrum, Cape Town will soon be on the leading edge of Virtual Reality.
