Leading telecommunications group Huawei has demonstrated that it not only understands its customers but is able to translate the demands for personal customisation into a simple, attractive and fast user experience.
This becomes immediately evident in its Emotion UI, an optional ‘skin’ that runs on top of the standard Android 4.4 mobile operating system on the Huawei Ascend range of smartphones. The outstanding feature of this design is the uniform look and feel consisting of elegant circles and slick animations across all applications and tools.
Emotion UI offers the ultimate combination of customisability with slick design that takes the smartphone experience to the next level. Every aspect of the user experience has been given a fresh new feel that is both intuitive and visually attractive.
On top of these design elements, Huawei Emotion UI is packed with a range of new gestures that epitomise ease of use. This is clearly demonstrated by the ability to bring the keyboard to within easy reach by tilting the phone in the desired direction, opening dialogue windows by simply shaking the phone up and down, scrolling through lists with a gentle swipe or opening the camera app by swiping down from within the Photo Gallery.
The design makeover extends beyond simple aesthetics such as the screen wallpaper that presents a fresh image every time the screen is activated, to practical considerations such as a simple, integrated messaging, phone and contacts interface.
These essential communication tools are available in one integrated screen that can be selected by simply flicking left or right from the combined screen. Call and messaging records are displayed in a simple, clean timeline with messaging taken to the next level with intelligent archiving and address recognition. Further convenience is offered by being able to pin important messages to the top of the list.
Other common apps also benefit from Huawei Emotion UI’s unified look and feel.
The music app features a clean, elegant interface that allows users to easily manage the music library through common tasks such as adding songs to favourites lists and choosing the playback mode.
The live weather app is able to display essential data such as temperature – shown as a colour-coded temperature dial – air pollution levels, humidity, and wind strength and wind direction. The dual weather clock feature allows users to monitor the weather in other locations of importance to them.
The calendar follows these feature-rich design principles and offers quick navigation between year, month, week, and date views through a simple tap, or a two-finger gesture to zoom in or out of these different layout views.
The convenience of this user interface becomes even more powerful with Huawei’s multi-user features such as Private Mode that hides personal user information such as contacts, albums, and applications from guest users.
Additional security, privacy and customisation is supported in Phone Manager, Huawei’s unique application management and security software that provides complete security against prying eyes while ensuring that the smartphone is optimised for peak performance.
This comprehensive approach to usability, customisation and convenience when combined with Huawei’s world-class technology and high-performance devices provide consumers with a simple choice, as shown by Huawei’s continued growth and popularity.
