iPhone 8 Codenamed ‘Ferrari’ – Specs, Design And Features

According to recent leaked reports, Apple looks set to be unveiling three new smartphone models in September 2017.

This means that we could be looking forward to an iPhone 7S, iPhone 7S Plus, as well as a completely redesigned iPhone 8 which is strongly rumoured to resemble a single sheet of glass, with no Home Button and wireless charging… Codenamed “Ferrari”.

A possible new red colour scheme is on the cards for all 3 new devices.

The iPhone 8 will boast glass panels on the front and rear of the device, with a slight curve to the borderless OLED display. The iconic Home Button might be removed completely, hiding the fingerprint sensor technology underneath the glass display instead.

‘Ferrari’ is also reported to come with a substantial internal redesign which sees the logic board being split into two units connected by a flex cable. One of these logic boards will carry the main grunt of the iPhone, similarly to the rumoured A11 system-on-a-chip and flash storage. The communications package with the Wi-Fi and cellular components can be found on separate logic board.

The SIM card tray might also be moved to the bottom of the device, making room inside the device for internal components. We could also see wireless charging introduced in this new flagship phone.

But unlike rival devices from the likes of Google, Samsung, HTC, and Huawei, which are only capable of wireless charging over distances of up to four centimetres, Apple has reportedly struck a deal with wireless charging company Energous, which developed a wire-free charging solution dubbed WattUp RF capable of charging devices from up to four metres away. In other words, your Apple Watch, Apple Magic Keyboard and Mouse, iPhone 8 and iPad Pro could all be simultaneously charging whenever they are in the same room as a WattUp RF transmitter.
