Introducing the new Creative Director of Huawei AFRICA – J’Something.
Joao da Fonseca known as “J-Something” started off in 2011 as the lead singer in the Music Band – Mi casa. Straight after releasing their first album, they went gold and received numerous awards, the rest as they say is history. A couple days ago, at the official launch of the New Huawei P8 Smartphone, there was a even bigger announcement made that made twitter go crazy. J-Something turned to J-Everything , when he was announced as the new Creative Director for Huawei AFRICA.We caught up with the ecstatic J- Something…
1. Who is J’Something?
“I’m a creative. That’s the best way to define me. Well there are plenty other ways but I think creative applies to all aspects of my life. Music and Mi Casa I create … be it music/music video concepts/band image/ etc … with my production company Something’s Cool, I am head of creative and I come up with and create TV formats … with my food, I create and come up with cool recipes … with Huawei, I’m creative director … coming up with cool ways to further amplify the brand presence and appeal across Africa. So I hope creative as a description does my justice … haha.”
2. Describe your feelings when you were announced as the new Creative Director for Huawei AFRICA?
“Excited as anything … humbled beyond measure … and brave. Was feeling like I owned the world in that moment … proud of myself before anyone could be. It’s a huge moment for me and I believe it’s a huge moment for Huawei Africa.”
3. What does this mean? Explain your role and the duties you have to fill as the new Creative Director?
“In basic terms I will be directing the creative ambitions of the company across the African platform and making them possible. Strategizing and conceptualizing already has begun and the team and I are working on some mind blowing experiences for the fans of the brand.”
4. What do you plan to do differently in terms of the creative side at Huawei AFRICA?
“I plan on allowing potential users and fans of the brand the ability to dream through the device. The P8 is an incredible device … it allows you to explore so many elements of life. Huawei mantra is ‘Make it Possible’ …We want to instil bravery in people … aspiration in people … to remind people to dream. You will be surprised as to how much the P8 specifically allows you to just that.”
5. Upcoming plans for Mi Casa?
“International tour …17 cities across the world. It’s a HUGE moment for us …flying the SA flag extremely proudly. Releasing a new album this year that I believe is going to our best to date. Amazing music”
