GoDaddy, the company empowering everyday entrepreneurs and the world’s largest domain registrar, has brought its ‘Build Your Online Presence’ workshop presented by Empower by GoDaddy to more than 500 small and medium enterprises and emerging, black-owned companies in Gauteng since June 2019. The workshops – many of them hosted in townships – aim to empower entrepreneurs with digital skills and tools that can help them to grow their business.
Attendees learn the value of building their brand and discover how creating websites can help grow their digital presence. They are shown how to build and launch a website from scratch with zero coding skills required. At the end of the workshop, students leave with a professional website for their business or idea, as well as the skills to manage the new site on their own.
Since June 2019, GoDaddy has hosted workshops each month, with venues including in Kagiso, Heidelberg, Vaal, Alexander and Orange Grove. GoDaddy is continuing to offer the ‘Build Your Online Presence’ workshops as webinars during the national lockdown. For details about the next workshop visit our Facebook page.
“The workshop was informative to me as a small business owner. I realised the importance of being online and having a website for referrals. My team and I are working on creating our business website and we appreciate the efforts of GoDaddy for bringing it to us at no cost,” says Tebogo Matiwane, owner of Luhle M Foundation, who attended a workshop in Kagiso.
Moses Aphane, owner of Sadeas Holdings, adds: “This workshop showed me how cost-effective it could be to have a website. GoDaddy’s templates for businesses were of great help. Now I see the importance of having a website and personalised email, which will be good for my brand “
The workshop is a hands-on introduction to building an online presence for any individual, business owner or entrepreneur who is new to digital tools and platforms. Students learn what an online presence is, the elements it consist of and how to create the core elements: register a domain name, create a website, and attach a professional email address to engage with customers.
Says Selina Bieber, Senior Regional Director for Turkey, MENA and South Africa, GoDaddy: “GoDaddy’s mission is to give our customers the tools, insights and the people to transform their ideas and personal initiative into success. Through our ‘Build Your Online Presence’’ social impact programme, we aim to empower entrepreneurs, particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds, to make their idea a reality and grow it online.”
“We are pleased to see many of our attendees excited about how easy and affordable it is to create their own websites in a short amount of time, added Bieber. Some are also encouraging their friends and acquaintances to build their own websites, or even begin side businesses, by building websites for others. “
