Hisense South Africa broadens African footprint

Just short of three months ago, Hisense – a global front-runner in flat-panel TV’s, household appliances and smartphones – announced its plans to supply Southern African countries with locally manufactured products through its Export Division.

To date, over R15 million  worth of products has been supplied to Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, as well as Madagascar, Seychelles, Ghana, Liberia, Cameroon, etc.

Namibia is proving to be one of Hisense SA’s big success story to date.  The Export Division sealed a deal with the Windhoek based Namibian Audio Mecca, who purchased TV’s and refrigerators to the value of R1.2 million. This relationship sees Hisense being sold to all major Namibian outlets, including the likes of Homecorp, Furnmart, Game, HIFI Corporation, Lewis and Nictus stores, and becoming one of the major electronics suppliers in this market.

As predicted, the Hisense plant which opened in June 2013 in Atlantis outside Cape Town, has played an essential role in providing Namibia, Zambia and Botswana with high quality products at an affordable price.

Keith Pereira, Export Division Manager of Hisense SA, says, “We are confident that the plant in Cape Town will allow us to capture market share in regions where the GDP growth rates are at much higher rates than South Africa albeit from a much lower base. Our newly established presence in other Southern Africa countries means there is increased demand for Hisense products.  It also means we are well on track to increasing our local workforce from 500 to almost 1200 in the next two – three years.”
