I am self-motivated and extremely passionate about performing arts, dance ,giving to charity and writing poetry/lyrics. I am a huge fan of Shreya Ghoshal and The Vampire Diaries. I’ve been involved in a number of co-curricula activities ever since grade 1 and this has been an ongoing process that always keeps me on my feet. I love volunteering and being the leader of tasks.. The back seat for me, is never good enough.. And I guess that’s a given considering I’m a Leo. Versatile is another name of mine as I am multi-talented and strive to excel in all I do.
You’ve already seen her on the big screen! Well, if you haven’t – Take a look at this! She’s the one using the Red Heels….
Not just in the movie industry but she represents her school in debating and her hard work and dedication is surely keeping the Greenbury Secondary School flag flying high!
Here is Digital Street’s Xclusive Interview with… Deshni Govender!
A grade 10 pupil of Greenbury Secondary School and Actress of Broken Promises 3. Residing in Broadlands, Mount Edgecombe. She’s 15 years of age (21 of August 1997).
1. How did you get involved in acting?
Nina Dobrev- Star of The Vampire Diaries was actually my inspiration to become an actress. It all started in 2010,I simply admired the way she played these two roles that are the complete opposite of each other. I’ve always been involved in theatre activities from a young age and I was always awarded the best actress. This also motivated me to dig deeper and weigh my chances of becoming an actress. Sooner or later I spoke to my parents about it and they supported and encouraged me although I knew at the back of their minds, they didn’t think I was serious. I guess it was part of my destiny because a year later, early 2011, I saw an audition opportunity on facebook for the role of Broken Promises 3 Lead actress. I had my doubts about it but following my dreams and believing in myself always took me to great heights
2.Where did you learn acting?
Acting has always been a natural talent of mine even though I have never been for speech and drama or any other training of that sort. Its just in me and something that comes naturally.
3.What have you learned from senior actors?
I’ve learned that no matter how old you are,its never to late to try and the earlier, the better. It can take you to great heights. Constantly working hard and keeper your eyes open for opportunities is the key to success.
4. What kind of Roles do you prefer?
I prefer Romantic main leads, roles that include dance and also of drama. I love being able to fit into a completely different character but I’m not fussy. At this stage, most roles will do just fine for me.
5.Who is you favourite actress?
My favourite actresses would be Nina Dobrev and Bollywood would be Shreya Sarin. I also think that Shahid Kapoor is an amazing actor and dancer.
6.What is you favourite TV Series/Movie/Song?
The Vampire Diaries is definitely my favourite series. As for songs and movies, they change all the time but I’m a bollywood and disney fanatic!
7.What do you think are the difficulties in this industry?
The most difficult thing I would say is meeting the right people and getting good roles. Its extremely difficult when you live in an area that isn’t big on movie making. Discovering opportunities isn’t easy at all.
8. What advice would you give to other aspiring actors/actresses?
To those who want to pursue careers in performing arts, never give up! Always motivate and encourage yourself to make your dreams come true. When you see an opportunity,no matter how small it may seem, take it! You’ll never know where it could lead you to 🙂
