Microsoft has officially announced that its next-generation Xbox console will be powered by AMD chipsets and will not be restricted to a single storefront. This marks a significant shift in the gaming industry, as Microsoft aims to create a more open and flexible gaming ecosystem.
Microsoft has signed a multi-year agreement with AMD to co-develop chipsets for its future gaming devices, including the next-gen Xbox. This partnership is expected to deliver enhanced graphics, AI-powered gameplay, and improved processing speeds.
Unlike previous Xbox consoles, the upcoming model will allow users to access third-party storefronts such as Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG, alongside the traditional Microsoft Store. This move aligns with Microsoft’s broader strategy of making Windows the leading platform for gaming.
Microsoft has confirmed that the next-gen Xbox will be fully compatible with existing Xbox game libraries, ensuring that players can continue enjoying their favourite titles without restrictions.
South Africa’s gaming community has been growing rapidly, with an increasing number of players engaging in console gaming, esports, and cloud-based gaming. The open-platform approach of the next-gen Xbox could provide greater accessibility to a wider range of games, benefiting both casual and competitive gamers.
