Nokia partners with Samsung, unveiling ‘Here’ maps and location services for Tizen-powered smart devices

Nokia’s Here mapping division have announced its partnership with Samsung bringing Here maps and location services to Tizen-powered smart devices, including Samsung Gear S.

Nokia announced that ‘Here’ is powering a Tizen app called Navigator on the Samsung Gear S, which will offer turn-by-turn walk navigation and public transit routing. The application will also allow you to store map data on the device, which can be used for offline navigation.

You will be able to pair the Navigator app on the Samsung Gear S with the application on Samsung Galaxy devices.

The app which will be released exclusively for Samsung Galaxy devices for free allowing users to plan and calculate routes for walking and public transit from paired Samsung Galaxy device, which can then be sent to Gear S smartwatch.

The ‘Here’ application for Android devices also offers offline navigation and maps for almost 100 countries, as well as public transport maps and directions for more than 750 cities in more than 40 countries without requiring an Internet connection, and live traffic information for more than 40 countries.

The app will only be made available for download from the Samsung Galaxy Apps store after the Samsung Gear S arrives in stores, starting October this year. The app also set to work with Samsung’s Car Mode feature on select Galaxy devices, as well as with the company’s Glympse app.
