At the event at the Sun Arena at Times Square in Pretoria last night, Green said, “As Miss South Africa I will use my medical knowledge to help and heal. Secondly, as an influencer I will inspire and motivate all the women of South Africa to reach for their strengths and overcome their challenges.”

Global media intelligence company, Meltwater, monitored and analysed the data surrounding the event and the crowning of the new Miss SA.
The results indicated that thousands of South Africans had tuned in from all over the country and abroad, and had taken mostly to Twitter to express themselves about the new pageant winner.
With over 36 600 mentions of “Miss SA,” “Miss South Africa” and “#MissSA2018”on social media within the last week, it’s evident there’s been plenty social chatter. The conversation naturally peaked on the 27th of May, the night that the new Miss SA was crowned, with over 15 500 mentions. But throughout the contest, mentions stayed steady in the hundreds.
There were also several topics that were trending yesterday and during the run-up to the final event. One of the trending topics was “Bonang Matheba” – radio host, television personality, businesswoman, and one of South Africa’s favourite local celebrities. With 12 000 mentions on social media, Bonang was the official presenter of the Miss South Africa finalist and many seemed to think she looked like a queen and deserved the title of Miss SA.
“Congratulations” also trended with mentions of the pageant, as many were congratulatory to the Top 12, Top 5, runners-up finalists and eventually the winner of the Miss SA competition. Congratulations was most commonly used in conjunction with winner Tamaryn Green’s name.
This, and the fact that the data analysed of the Miss SA contest was overwhelmingly positive in sentiment, shows us that South Africa felt positively about the newly crowned winner.
